Relative or specific density

Measuring density with a reference material

The relative or specific density is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a given reference material. It is nearly always measured with respect to water at its densest (4°C) and can be reliably determined using the liquid density laboratory instrument VariDens by Schmidt + Haensch.
